; This article is a reflection based on years of extension experience in different regions such as the Gulf of Nicoya, the Caribbean Coast and Nueva Cinchona, among others. These work experiences constitute the basis for the analysis of the extension practices, as well as, the theoretical assumptions involved in them, witch in some cases we considered that they must be overcome and studied from critical perspectives. Of course, it's not about the moral imperatives, or if the problem of the extension practices are seen external to our own experiences; it is rather the opposite; the dialectical tensions that are part of the own university and the structural-historical conditions (economic, cultural, political) of the most vulnerable communities that interfere in the conception of university extension, which meaning has been static to changes, emergent phenomena and current problems. This conception does not respond to a clear idea of social transformation since the theoretical content that supports it is unreal and irrational, nevertheless it has been presented to us as logical and rational. Therefore, this content belongs to a scientific and cultural modernity that also affects the University. The purpose is to build possibilities of factual transformation, from a revision of various myths that modernity has created to the analysis of the role of the extension of the public University as player or debunker of certain concepts.

The aim was to assess the effect of adherence to the Mediterranean Diet, measured with five different indexes, on the risk of gastric cancer. Data come from the multicase-control study MCC—Spain, which included 354 gastric cancer cases and 3040 controls with data on diet. We used five indexes to evaluate adherence to the Mediterranean diet and assess the association between each pattern with the risk of gastric cancer, using multivariate logistic regression. The analyses were performed for the whole set of gastric cancer cases, by anatomical location (cardia and noncardia) and by histological type (intestinal and diffuse). According to the used index, a high adherence protects one from gastric cancer (between 48% (aOR = 0.52; CI 95% = 0.28–0.94) and 75% (aOR = 0.25; CI 95% = 0.12–0.52)), from non-cardia (between 48% (aOR = 0.52; CI 95% = 0.36–0.75) and 65% (aOR = 0.35; CI 95% = 0.23–0.52)), and from the intestinal type (between 41% (aOR = 0.59; CI 95% = 0.36–0.95) and 72% (aOR = 0.28; CI 95% = 0.16–0.50)), but not from the diffuse type. In conclusion, high adherence to a Mediterranean diet pattern is a protective factor for the risk of gastric cancer, with greater adherence leading to greater protection. ; Dietary habits are one of the factors that influence the development of gastric cancer and, although it has been seen that the Mediterranean diet has a protective effect on this type of cancer, there are different indexes to assess the degree of adherence to this dietary pattern; this implies differences in the results obtained in the reduction of risk.

7 pags., 5 figs. -- Open Access funded by Creative Commons Atribution Licence 4.0 ; We show that simulated relativistic motion can generate entanglement between artificial atoms and protect them from spontaneous emission. We consider a pair of superconducting qubits coupled to a resonator mode, where the modulation of the coupling strength can mimic the harmonic motion of the qubits at relativistic speeds, generating acceleration radiation. We find the optimal feasible conditions for generating a stationary entangled state between the qubits when they are initially prepared in their ground state. Furthermore, we analyse the effects of motion on the probability of spontaneous emission in the standard scenarios of single-atom and two-atom superradiance, where one or two excitations are initially present. Finally, we show that relativistic motion induces sub-radiance and can generate a Zeno-like effect, preserving the excitations from radiative decay. ; MINECO/FEDER FIS2015-69983-P and FIS2015-70856-P, Basque Government grant IT986-16, CAM PRICYT Project QUITEMAD + S2013/ICE-2801, University Sorbonne Paris Cité EQDOL contract, and Fundación General CSIC (Programa ComFuturo). ; Peer Reviewed
During the years 1900 to 1936, children's health began to gain importance in Europe. In Spain, infant mortality was high. To counteract this situation, the state proposed health, educational and food measures. Objective. To analyze the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), which continued with the "hungry years" of the post-war period (1939-1949), known for food rationing and the decline of mother and child health. Method. Historical descriptive study with primary and secondary sources. It deals with the socio-health context and the food transition experienced by infants during the Spanish war and post-war period (1936-1949). Results. The government carried out a promotion of breastfeeding guided by pediatricians of the time, however, formula gained importance, due to the modification of the basic family structure. The classic figure of the woman was fractured, in favour of working in factories or, ultimately, as active participants in the war. Conclusions. Health institutions focused on the care of the wounded, an issue that impacted on the care of the sick child. This situation resulted in high rates of child morbidity and mortality, which continued until the end of the post-war period.
